The Dram Queen’s programme at the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 2024 is now live!

I look forward to welcoming old friends and making new friends at my events for the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. This year I have created three new Scotch whisky experiences which will take place in my Dram Room.

Making “Sense” of Scotch Whisky

In a fun interactive event, the Dram Queen, Ann Miller, will introduce you to sensory appreciation. You will discover how to use your senses of smell and taste to identify aromas and flavours as well as to assess whiskies in an unbiased manner. A blind tasting of 6 drams will be complemented by the opportunity to try naming some other familiar aromas. Ann will explore some of the origins of these flavours in the production and maturation process of Scotch whisky so you should depart more confident in your whisky tasting abilities.

The Dram Queen’s Dram Room, AB38 7QT, Thursday 2 May 15.00 – 16.30 and Saturday 4 May 11.00 – 12.30

Celebrating 200 years of legal distillation in Speyside

This year, following the bicentenary of the Excise Act 1823 last year, a number of well-known distilleries are celebrating their 200th anniversary. The Dram Queen takes an independent and fascinating look at illicit distillation and smuggling which preceded this milestone and looks at distilleries established afterwards. Join her tasting when she will share some celebratory drams and consider how one Act of Parliament transformed Speyside’s whisky industry.

Speyside’s Hidden Heroines

It may seem that women have only recently begun to make a mark on the Scotch whisky industry, but history tells us a different story. During a tutored tasting of malt whiskies from Speyside The Dram Queen provides some fascinating and independent insights into this topic. An entertaining and informative experience tracing the contribution made to whisky distilling in Speyside since the days of illicit distillation by some notable and dedicated women, including some creating impressive single malt and blended Scotch whiskies today.
